Xero Hacks: 5 Features That Save You Hours Every Month

Xero is one of the best tools small businesses in New Zealand can use to stay on top of their finances. But here’s the thing... most people only use a fraction of what it can actually do!

If you’re just logging in to send invoices and check your bank balance, you’re missing out on features that could save you time, reduce errors, and give you a clearer picture of your business.

Here are 5 of my favourite Xero hacks:

1.⁠ ⁠Bank Rules = Faster Reconciliations

Sick of coding the same transactions every month? You can create “bank rules” so Xero recognises recurring payments (like power bills, subscriptions, or fuel) and codes them automatically. That means less clicking and fewer mistakes.

2.⁠ ⁠Repeating Invoices = No More Forgotten Bills

If you send the same invoice every week or month (like rent, retainers, or memberships), set up a repeating invoice. Xero will create it automatically on schedule, so you don’t have to remember.

3.⁠ ⁠File Storage = No More Shoebox of Receipts

Did you know you can upload bills, receipts, or supporting documents directly into Xero? You can even email them straight to your Xero account. This makes tax time so much easier... no more hunting for paperwork!

4.⁠ ⁠Track Projects = See Which Jobs Are Profitable
