Running a small business in New Zealand is exciting, but many business owners are wearing multiple hats, which, often comes with a mountain of paperwork. From GST to payroll, the admin tasks quickly add up. If you’re spending more time buried in spreadsheets than serving clients, it might be time to call in a bookkeeper.
Here's 5 tell-tale signs your business is ready for bookkeeping support:
1. GST Deadlines keep sneaking up on you
If you’ve ever scrambled on the 28th of the month to get your GST filed, you’re not alone. But constant last-minute rushes can lead to mistakes, or worse, penalties. As a bookkeeper I make sure it’s done right and on time, every time.
2. Your receipts are everywhere
Glovebox, handbag, random drawers in your office… if your receipts are living everywhere but your accounts system, you’re probably missing deductible expenses. I set up an easy system to capture and code them properly and easily.
3. Payroll is a headache
Holiday pay at 8%? Sick leave entitlements after 6 months? PAYE filings with IRD? Payroll in NZ is a minefield, and mistakes can cost you staff trust and compliance issues. As an accredited bookkeeper with payroll expertise I can take the stress off your plate and make sure staff are paid correctly.
4. Cashflow feels like a guessing game
Not sure if you can afford that new hire or equipment? If your bank balance is the only “report” you check, you’re missing key insights. Part of my role as a bookkeeper is to help you understand what’s really happening with your money, so that you can make better financial decisions in business when it comes to cash flow.
5. You’re working nights and weekends trying to keep on top of things.
Your time is valuable. If you’re spending evenings reconciling accounts instead of spending time with family (or actually resting!), it’s a sign you’re doing too much. I can help you free up your valuable time so that you can spend it on the things that really matter!
If any of these sound familiar, you’re not alone. Many small business owners start out managing their own books, but eventually realise that outsourcing isn’t a cost, it’s an investment in accuracy, peace of mind, and more time to focus on growing your business.
